                  me, o di metallo, quelle che apreno, & ſerrano; gli ornamenti delle quali ſi fanno in queſto modo. </s>

                  i fuſti che entrano ne i cancani detti da Vitru. Scapi Cardinales, prendeno le loro miſure dal­

                  l'altezza del lume, perche prima ſi diuide l'altezza del lume in dodici parti, poi facemo i detti

                  fuſti lunghi per la duodecima parte: come ſe il lume fuſſe alto dodici piedi, egliſi darebbe un pie­

                  de alli fuſti, cioe mezo a quello di ſopra, & mezo a quello di ſctto. </s>

                  loro entrano come maſcoli nelle femine, ne i cardini loro, cioè cancani, uno de quali è nel limi­

                  tar di ſopra, l'altro, nel limitar di ſotto, doue nella figura ſono le lettere

                  anticamente queſti modi per tenere le porte ſoſpeſe, accioche i fuſti ſi riuolgeſſero in quelli can­

                  cani con gran de facilità all' aprire, & ſerrare: poco carico a gli edificij, & piu sbrigata ma­
                    <lb/>
                  niera era l'antica di quella, che hoggi dì uſamo. </s>
                  <s id="s.003780">Tutto il legno piano della porta, che era trai

                  fuſti, ſi compartiua in quadri, che latinamente Timpani ſono detti. </s>

                  certe liſte, regole, & gole, come cornici, delle quali Vitru. ci rende conto, dicendo, che i qua­

                  dri deono hauere tre parti di dodici dell' altezza del uano. </s>

                  no eſſere compartite in queſto modo, che diuiſa l'altezza del lume in cinque parti, due ſe ne dia­

                  no a gli orli, & impagini di ſopra, come è da T. ad V. tre alle impagini di ſotto come da T.

                  ad X. ma ſoprail mezo, cioè tra i quadri, o Timpani, nella diuiſione d'un quadro, & l'altro

                  ſiano poſte meze regole, & nelle altre parti reſtanti ſiano affiße alcune regole o liſte di ſopra,

                  alcune di ſotto. </s>

                  Z, la gola o cimaſa per la ſeſta parte dell' impagine. </s>
                  <s id="s.003786">& la cornice, ouero l'ornamento della liſta,

                  ſia di ſei parti & meza della liſta, ċioè della metà & d'un ſeſto. </s>
                  <s id="s.003787">Qui è molto da conſiderare
                    <lb/>
                  quello, che dice Vitru. perche molti s'hanno affaticato, & poi hanno detto a modo loro. </s>

                    <lb/>
                  affermo d'hauer trouato la uerita, nè però niego d'eſſer lontano dalla ragione. </s>
                  <s id="s.003789">però dico, che chi
                    <lb/>
                  uuole formare una porta al modo di Vitru, (per quanto io ſtimo) biſogna conſiderare, che alcu­
                    <lb/>
                  ne porte erano piu adorne, alcune meno, però le meno adorne, & piu ſchiette ſi dauano alla
                    <lb/>
                  maniera Dorica. </s>
                  <s id="s.003790">Le piu adorne alle altre maniere. </s>
                  <s id="s.003791">Per gli adornamenti delle porte ſono laſciati
                    <lb/>
                  alcuni ſpacij piani, & quelli circondati ſono d'alcuni rilieui attaccati, o affiſſi a detti piani,
                    <lb/>
                  & intagliati di gole, liſtelli, & cornicette, & altri adornamenti. </s>
                  <s id="s.003792">Oltra di queſto i comparti­
                    <lb/>
                  menti diuerſi di detti piani, & di dette liste, & il fare le porte intiere, o di piu pezzi apporta
                    <lb/>
                  minor, o maggior grandezza, & ornamento: però conſiderando, quanto ſi conuiene alla manie­
                    <lb/>
                  ra Dorica, io direi, che la prima compoſitione delle porte poſta da Vitru. conuiene alla manie­
                    <lb/>
                  ra Dorica, & le altre compoſitioni alle altre maniere. </s>
                  <s id="s.003793">ilche con ragione potemo giudicare, per­
                    <lb/>
                  che la prima compoſitione è piu ſoda, l'altre ſono piu ornate. </s>
                  <s id="s.003794">Dapoi perche ſi uede, che'l primo
                    <lb/>
                  compartimento conuiene mirabilmente alla Dorica, & gli altri alle altre maniere. </s>
                  <s id="s.003795">Ecco detto
                    <lb/>
                  ha Vitruuio di ſopra, che la porta Dorica è larga al baſſo per cinque parti & meza delle dodi­
                    <lb/>
                  ci dell' altezza del lume, tutto questo uano, o lume nel chiuder la porta deue eſſere occupato
                    <lb/>
                  dal legno, o dal metallo, che ua nella porta d'uno pezzo: perche la larghezza della porta lo
                    <lb/>
                  ſopporta. </s>
                  <s id="s.003796">Queſto legno, che empie il uano è adornato ſemplicemente, & ha due quadri uno di
                    <lb/>
                  ſopra, & l'altro di ſotto, che ſi chiamano (come ho detto) timpani. </s>
                  <s id="s.003797">queſti ſono circondati da
                    <lb/>
                  liſte, & regole, & orli, & nella diſtributione de gli orli, che impagini egli chiama, egli uſa il
                    <lb/>
                  compartimento ſopra detto, & poſto nella figura della porta Dorica: ma la doue egli dice.

                  cimaſa, & l'altra, come dimoſtra la figura.
