                  <s id="s.004298">Fornito il Foro biſogna eleggere il luogo molto ſano per lo Theatro, doue ne
                    <lb/>
                  i giorni ſolenni a i Dei ſi facciano i Giuochi. </s>
                  <s id="s.004299">la ragione de i luoghi ſani ſi è
                    <lb/>
                  dimoſtrata nel primo libro, quando trattammo di fare le mura d'intorno la
                    <lb/>
                  città. </s>
                  <s id="s.004300">percioche quelli, i quali per uedere i giuochi, con le moglie, & ſigliuo­
                    <lb/>
                  li ſi tengono ſtando i corpi per lo piacere, & diletto, ſenza mouerſi, hanno le uene aper­
                    <lb/>
                  te, nellequali entrano i uenti, che uenendo da luoghi paluſtri, o d'altre parti infettate, con
                    <lb/>
                  gli ſpiriti loro danno gran nocumento. </s>
                  <s id="s.004301">& però ſe con diligenza ſi trouerà luogo per lo
                    <lb/>
                  Theatro ageuolmente ſi ſchiuerà ogni difetto. </s>
                  <s id="s.004302">Biſogna oltra di queſto prouedere, che'l
                    <lb/>
                  Theatro non habbia l'impeto dal meriggie, percioche empiendo il Sole la ritondezza del
                    <lb/>
                  Theatro, l'aere rinchiuſo nella curuatura non potendo uſcire, raggirando ſi ſcalda, & af­
                    <lb/>
                  focato cuoce & ſcema l'humore de i corpi, & però grandemente ſi deono fuggire le parti
                    <lb/>
                  nociue, & eleggere le ſane, & buone. </s>

                    <emph type="italics"/>
                  Si come il Trattamento del Foro abbracciaua la Baſilica, l'Erario, il carcere, & la Curia,
                    <lb/>
                  coſi il trattamento del Theatro abbraccia molte coſe, dellequali Vitruuio ragiona in queſto, &
                    <lb/>
                  altri capi, & è coſa degna di auuertimento, perche ui ſono molte belle, & difficili pratiche, &
                    <lb/>
                  ſottili conſiderationi, come diſtintamente ſi uedrà al ſuo luogo. </s>
                  <s id="s.004304">Seguitando adunque le ſolite di­
                    <lb/>
                  uiſioni diremo, che de gli ſpettacoli alcuni ſono per diletto della pace, & dell' ocio, altri ſono driz­
                    <lb/>
                  zati allo ſtudio della guerra, & del negocio; & ſi come ne i primi ſi riſueglia il uigore dello in­
                    <lb/>
                  gegno, & della mente, coſi ne i ſecondi ſi eccita la gagliardezza delle forze, & dell'animo: ma
                    <lb/>
                  d'amendue una eſſer deue la intentione, cioè indrizzare il tutto all'ornamento, & alla ſalute
                    <lb/>
                  della patria, però ſommamente ſi deue auuertire, che ne i giuochi, & ne gli ſpettacoli, non ſiano
                    <lb/>
                  introdotte coſe dishoneſte, & laſciue. </s>
                  <s id="s.004305">Hora diremo dell'un', & l'altra maniera di ſpettacoli. </s>

                    <lb/>
                  Nella prima adunque, doue è il diletto della pace, introdutti ſono i Poeti, i Muſici, gli Iſtrioni;
                    <lb/>
                  nella ſeconda, che riguarda a gli ſtudi della guerra ſi fanno diuerſi certami, & contentioni ſpet­
                    <lb/>
                  tanti alla forza, & deſtrezza de i corpi. </s>
                  <s id="s.004307">A i primi ſi dà il Theatro, che altro non uuol dire, che
                    <lb/>
                  ſpettacolo, o luogo da guardare. </s>
                  <s id="s.004308">a i ſecondi, ſe ſono ſpettacoli d'agilità & deſtrezza, come cor­
                    <lb/>
                  rere o ſaltare, ſi dà il Circo. </s>
                  <s id="s.004309">ſe ſono di forze, come di aſſaltare, & combattere con le fiere, & con
                    <lb/>
                  gli huomini, ſi da lo Anfitheatro. </s>
                  <s id="s.004310">Conuengono prima tutti gli ſpettacoli in queſte coſe prima,
                    <lb/>
                  che ſono cornuti, o curui, dapoi hanno lo ſpacio di mezo, & finalmente d'intorno tengono i gradi,
                    <lb/>
                  & i luoghi eminenti doue ſtanno le perſone a ſedere, & a uedere. </s>
                  <s id="s.004311">ſono differentinel diſegno, per­
                    <lb/>
                  cioche il Theatro, è come una Luna che inuecchia. </s>
                  <s id="s.004312">Il Circo è piegato con le corna in lungo, &
                    <lb/>
                  ſi ſtende molto, perche ſia commodo alle carrette, & caualli, che correno. </s>
                  <s id="s.004313">ſi ſoleua anche met­
                    <lb/>
                  terui l'acqua, & farui dentro le pugne nauali. </s>
                  <s id="s.004314">Vero è che il circo di ſua natura non ha portichi,
                    <lb/>
                  & dicono, che il circo fu fatto ad imitatione delle coſe celeſti, però haueua dodici entrate per li
                    <lb/>
                  dodici ſegni; ſette mete, & termini per li ſette pianeti. </s>
                  <s id="s.004315">& erano le mete diſtribuite nel mezo della
                    <lb/>
                  lunghezza del piano da Leuante a Ponente, diſtanti una dall'altra, doue le carrette da due, &
                    <lb/>
                  da quattro ruote correndo andauano per mezo gli ſpacij del Circo, come diſcorre il Sole, & la Lu
                    <lb/>
                  na, ſotto il Zodiaco. </s>
                  <s id="s.004316">& non uſauano piu di uentiquattro dardi, per le uentiquattro hore, che è
                    <lb/>
                  una riuolutione del Cielo. </s>
                  <s id="s.004317">Erano quelli, che correuano diuiſi in quattro liuree, una era di color
                    <lb/>
                  uerde, che rappreſentaua la prima uera. </s>
                  <s id="s.004318">l'altra di roſato, che ſignificaua la ſtate. </s>
                  <s id="s.004319">la terza, di
                    <lb/>
                  bianco poſta per lo autunno. </s>
                  <s id="s.004320">l'ultima foſca, che dinotaua il uerno. </s>
                  <s id="s.004321">Il luogo doue s'incominciaua
                    <lb/>
                  il corſo era detto carcere: noi chiamamo le moſſe. </s>
                  <s id="s.004322">Alcuni non fanno differenza tra circo, & hip­
                    <lb/>
                  podromo, & catodromo. </s>
                  <s id="s.004323">L'Amfiteatro era di due Theatri congiunti inſieme con le fronti loro.

                  <s id="s.004324">& queſte forme erano preſe dall'uſo delle coſe, che ſi faceuano in que luoghi. </s>
