                  ta, Archimede, Cteſibio, Nimfodoro, Philo Bizantino, Diphilo, Charida, Polijdo,

                  le a queſte coſe raccolte ho ridutto in un corpo, & queſto ſpecialmente, perche io ho ue­

                  duto molti uolumi ſopra queſta coſa da Greci, & pochi da noſtri eſſer dati in luce; perche

                  Fuſsitio primo di tal coſe deliberò di dar in luce un mirabile uolume. </s>

                  eſſendo ſtati i cittadini grandi Architetti, i quali hanno potuto ſcriuere non meno elegan

                  temente de i ſopradetti, perche in Athene Antiſthene, & Calleſchro, & Antimachide, &
                    <lb/>
                  Dorino Architetti poſero le fondamenta del Tempio, che faceua far Piſiſtrato di Gioue
                    <lb/>
                  Olimpio: ma dapoi la morte di quello, per lo impedimento delle coſe publiche, lo laſcia
                    <lb/>
                  rono imperfetto, & però da dugento anni dapoi Antiocho Re hauendo promeſſo la ſpe­
                    <lb/>
                  ſa per quell'opera Coſſutio Cittadin Romano con gran prontezza, & ſomma cognitione
                    <lb/>
                  nobilmente fece la Cella, & la collocatione delle colonne intorno il Dipteros, & la di­
                    <lb/>
                  ſtributione de gli Architraui, & de gli altri ornamenti con proportionata miſura. </s>

                  <s id="s.005803">Queſta opera non ſolamente tra le uulgari, ma tra le poche è dalla magnificenza nomi­
                    <lb/>
                  nata, perche in quattro parti ſono le diſpoſitioni de i luoghi ſacri ornate di marmo delle
                    <lb/>
                  quali queſte con chiariſsima fama nominate ſono; le eccellenze delle quali, & i prudenti
                    <lb/>
                  apparati de i loro penſieri hanno ne i ſeggi de i Dei gran merauiglia, & ſi fanno guardare. </s>

                    <lb/>
                  Prima il Tempio di Diana in Efeſo alla lonica fu fatto da Cteſifonte Gnoſio, & da Meta
                    <lb/>
                  gene ſuo figliuolo, & poi Demetrio ſeruo di Diana, & Dafni Mileſio a Mileto fecero il
                    <lb/>
                  Tempio d'Apollo con le miſure Ioniche, Ictimo alla Dorica a Cerere Eleuſina, & a Pro
                    <lb/>
                  ſerpina fabricarono una cella di ſmiſurata grandezza, ſenza le colonne di fuori allo ſpatio
                    <lb/>
                  dell'uſo de i ſacrificij, & quella dominando in Athene Demetrio Falereo, dapoi fu fatta
                    <lb/>
                  da Philone d'aſpetto Proſtilos, & coſi accreſciuto il ueſtibulo laſciò lo ſpatio a quelli,
                    <lb/>
                  che conſacrauano, & diede grande autorità all'opera. </s>
                  <s id="s.005805">In Aſti ſi dice ancho, che Coſſu­
                    <lb/>
                  tio ſi pigliò la impreſa di far Gioue Olimpio con ampliſsimi moduli, & di miſure, &
                    <lb/>
                  proportioni Corinthie, come s'è detto di ſopra, del qual niuno commentario è ſtato ri­
                    <lb/>
                  trouato. </s>
                  <s id="s.005806">Nè ſolamente da Coſſutio tal ſorte di ſcritti ſono da deſiderare, ma ancho da
                    <lb/>
                  Caio Mutio, il quale confidatoſi nella ſua grande ſcienza, con legitime ordinationi del­
                    <lb/>
                  l'arte conduſſe a fine il Tempio dell'honore, & della uirtù della cella Mariana, & le pro­
                    <lb/>
                  portioni delle miſure, & de gli Architraui. </s>

                  <s id="s.005807">Quel Tempio ſe egli fuſſe ſtato fatto di marmo, accioche egli haueſſe hauuto come dal­
                    <lb/>
                  l'arte la ſottigliezza, coſi dalla magnificenza, & dalle ſpeſe l'autorità, certamente tra le
                    <lb/>
                  prime, & grandi opere ſarebbe nominato. </s>
                  <s id="s.005808">Ritrouandoſi adunque, & de gli antichi no
                    <lb/>
                  ſtri non meno de i Greci eſſere ſtati grandi Architetti, & molti ancho di noſtra memoria </s>
