                  <s id="s.007889">Oltra di queſto da gli iſteſsi ſcrittori ſi ſono cercate le ragioni de gli horologi da ac­

                  qua: & primamente da Cteſibio Aleſſandrino, ilquale trouò gli ſpiriti naturali, & le coſe
                    <lb/>
                  da uento. </s>
                  <s id="s.007890">Ma è coſa degna, che gli ſtudioſi conoſchino come ſiano ſtate queſte coſe inue­
                    <lb/>
                  ſtigate, & cercate. </s>
                  <s id="s.007891">Cteſibio nacque in Aleſſandria, & fu figliuolo d'un barbieri: eſſendo
                    <lb/>
                  coſtui eccellente oltra gli altri d'induſtria, & d'ingegno, diceſi, che ſi dilettaua grandemen
                    <lb/>
                  te di coſe artificioſe: imperoche uolendo, che nella bottega di ſuo padre uno ſpecchio
                    <lb/>
                  pendeſſe in modo, che quando egli fuſſe tratto fuori, & ritornaſſe in ſu, fuſſe una cordi­
                    <lb/>
                  cella ſottile aſcoſa, che tiraſſe il peſo a baſſo, coſi fece l'ordigno. </s>
                  <s id="s.007892">Egli conficcò ſotto uno

                  traue un canale di legno, & iui poſe le taglie, o girelle che ſi dichino, & per lo canale con
                    <lb/>
                  duſſe la cordicella picciola in uno angulo. </s>
                  <s id="s.007893">iui fece le canne, per lequali dalla cordicella man
                    <lb/>
                  dò giu una palla di piombo, dalche nacque, che il peſo andando allo in giu, per le ſtret­
                    <lb/>
                  tezze delle canne premeua con la uelocità del calare la denſità dello aere. </s>

                  per la bocca delle canne la frequentia dello aere raſſodata per quella compreſsione nello
                    <lb/>
                  aperto aere, & col toccamento, o percoſſa eſprimeua chiaramente il ſuono. </s>

                  Era uno ruotolo, nel quale erano inuolte due cordicelle per uno uerſo, i capi dellequali pen­

                  deuano da una parte, & all'uno de capi era appeſo uno ſpecchio, all'altro non u'era attacato al­
                    <lb/>
                  cuna coſa, ma egli ſi laſciaua per tirare, & uoltare il ruotolo. </s>
                  <s id="s.007896">tirando adunque, & ſuogliendoſi
                    <lb/>
                  il ruotolo, ancho lo ſpecchio tirando peſaua, & ſuolgeua l'altro capo, coſi ueniua giu, ma la­

                  ſciando il capo, il ruotolo ſi riuolgeua, & inuoltaua le cordicelle, & coſi il peſo andaua allo in
                    <lb/>
                  ſu. </s>
                  <s id="s.007897">Ma come queſto ſi poteſſe fare, io dico, che nel mezo del ruotolo era un'altra cordicella auol­

                  ta al contrario delle due, allaquale era attac ato un peſo, il quale peſando piu dello ſpecchio, quan

                  do ſi rilaſciaua il capo della cordicella, il peſo, che era prima ſalito calaua al baſſo, perche la ſua

                  cordicella ſi ſuolgeua, & lo ſpecch o ſaliua, perche la ſua cordicella, s'inuolgeua. </s>
