            ſendo l’ufficio dell’ Architetto approuare le coſe ragioneuoli; </s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s638" xml:space="preserve">Piu ſecreta intelligenza ſi tragge ancor da quello s’ è dichiarato, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s639" xml:space="preserve">prima che l’artefice riſpetto all’opera tiene doppia conſideratione; </s>

            tiene doppia affettione à quelle conſiderationi corriſpondente. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s641" xml:space="preserve">La prima conſideratione è una notitia ſemplice uniuerſale per la quale ſi dice,

            che lhuomo ſa quanto ſi richiede à fine, che l’opera rieſca, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s642" xml:space="preserve">niente piu ui aggiugne, l’altra è una notitia particolare, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s643" xml:space="preserve">prosſima all’ope-
              <lb/>
            rare, che conſidera il tempo, il luogo, il modola doue naſce una affettione, che muoue l’huomo à commandare, & </s>

            ſola conſideratione ſola del diſcorſo, ſola dell’uniuerſale, ma ſi richiede quella ſeconda notitia, & </s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s652" xml:space="preserve">à formare l’ Architetto, coſamolto ragioneuole, & </s>

            ueniente, come ſi uedrà da quello che ſegue, dice adunque.</s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s655" xml:space="preserve">Dalle dette coſe ne ſegue, che quelli Architetti, che ſenza lettere tentato hanno di affaticarſi con le mani, non hanno

            potuto fare, che s’habbino per le fatiche loro acquiſtato riputatione alcuna, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s656" xml:space="preserve">quei, che nei diſcorſi, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s657" xml:space="preserve">nella co-

            gnitione delle lettere ſolamente fidati ſi ſono; </s>

            l’altra bene apparato hanno, come huomini di tutte armi coperti, & </s>

            artificioſa generatione, ſi ricerca il diſcorſo, & </s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s668" xml:space="preserve">& </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s669" xml:space="preserve">ſe alcuno ſi perſuadeſſe eſſere Architetto con la ſola ſabrica, ò

            uero con il ſolo diſcorſo egli s’ingannerebbe, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s670" xml:space="preserve">ſarebbe ſtimato coſa imperſetta, anzi monstruoſa; </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s671" xml:space="preserve">& </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s672" xml:space="preserve">di gratia ſe uno haueße il ſapere ſo-
              <lb/>
            lamente, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s673" xml:space="preserve">uſurpare ſi uoleſſe il nome d’ Architetto non ſarebbe egli ſottopoſto all’offeſe de gli Eſperti? </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s674" xml:space="preserve">non potrebbe ogni manuale improue

            rarli, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s675" xml:space="preserve">dirli che ſai tu? </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s676" xml:space="preserve">dall’ altra parte ſe per hauere un lieue eſſercitio, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s677" xml:space="preserve">alquanto di practica, di ſi gran nome degno eſſer ſi credeſſe,

            non potrebbe uno intelligente, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s678" xml:space="preserve">litterato chiuderli la bocca, domandandoli conto, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s679" xml:space="preserve">ragione delle coſe fatte? </s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s681" xml:space="preserve">però biſogna eſſere ar-

            mati, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s682" xml:space="preserve">ornati di tutte l’armi per acquistare la uittoria, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s683" xml:space="preserve">il uanto del uero Architetto. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s684" xml:space="preserve">Biſogna eſſer coperto per difeſa, armato per of-
              <lb/>
            feſa, ornato per gloria maneggiando l’eſperienza con l’artificio. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s685" xml:space="preserve">Perche adunque i pratici non hanno acquistato credito? </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s686" xml:space="preserve">percioche l’Ar-
              <lb/>
            chitettura naſce da diſcorſo. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s687" xml:space="preserve">Perche i letterati? </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s688" xml:space="preserve">percioche l’ Architettura naſce da fabrica, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s689" xml:space="preserve">però dice Vitr. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s690" xml:space="preserve">dalle dette coſe, cioè dal na-

            ſcimento dell’ Architettura che è fabrica, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s691" xml:space="preserve">diſcorſo cioè opera, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s692" xml:space="preserve">ragione, ſegue quello, che egli dice. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s693" xml:space="preserve">Main queſto luogo potrebbe alcuno

            <s xml:id="echoid-s695" xml:space="preserve">Se ueramente l’arte è nello intelletto, perche cagione ha detto Vitr. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s696" xml:space="preserve">che quelli iquali, nel ſaper ſolamente ſi ſono fidati,

            l’ombra non la coſa pare che habbino ſeguitato? </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s697" xml:space="preserve">Riſpondo, che le coſe dell’intelletto alla piu parte ombre paiano, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s698" xml:space="preserve">il uolgo ſtima le coſe in
              <lb/>
            quanto che à i ſenſi, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s699" xml:space="preserve">à gliocchi ſottopoſte ſono, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s700" xml:space="preserve">non inquanto non appaiono, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s701" xml:space="preserve">queſto auuiene per la conſuetudine, perche non
              <lb/>
            ſono le genti auuezze à diſcorrere, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s702" xml:space="preserve">però l’accorto Vitr. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s703" xml:space="preserve">non afferma, che i letterati habbino ſeguito l’ombre, ma dice, parere, queſto che
              <lb/>
            dinota il giuditio de gli imperiti eſſer fatto dalle coſe apparenti, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s704" xml:space="preserve">però mi pare che molti uaneggiano nel decidere qual ſia più nobile,
              <lb/>
            la ſcultura, ò la pittura, imperoche uanno alla materia, al tempo, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s705" xml:space="preserve">à molti altri accidenti, che non ſono dell’ arte, perche l’arte, è nell’intel-
              <lb/>
            letto, la doue tanto è ſcultore, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s706" xml:space="preserve">pittore il diuino Michel’ angelo dormendo, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s707" xml:space="preserve">mangiando, quanto operando, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s708" xml:space="preserve">facendo, però coſi ſi do-

            ueria conſiderare qual’ è piu degno habito nell’intelletto di Michel’angelo, ò quello che egli ha della ſcultura, ò pure quello della pittura, & </s>

            coſi laſciare i marmi, gl’azurri, i rilieui, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s710" xml:space="preserve">le proſpettiue, la difficultà, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s711" xml:space="preserve">la facilità delle dette arti; </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s712" xml:space="preserve">all’hora ſi potrebbe dire qualcoſa,

            che haueſſe del buono, ma hora non è tempo di decidere queſta queſtione. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s713" xml:space="preserve">Dice adunque l’arte non douer eſſere ocioſa, ma con eſſa le mani

            quella che ſigniſica. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s718" xml:space="preserve">La coſa ſignificata è l’opera propoſta, dellaquale ſi ragiona. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s719" xml:space="preserve">Quella che ſignifica, è la proua, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s720" xml:space="preserve">

            il perche di eſſa con maeſtreuole ragione eſpreſſo, & </s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s723" xml:space="preserve">Trale Artiſono alquante, il fine dellequali non paſſa oltra la conſideratione delle coſe alloro ſuggette, come ſono le Mathematiche, & </s>

            naturale. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s725" xml:space="preserve">Altre oltra uengono ad alcuna operatione, ma niente reſta di fatto, come è nell’ Arte di ſaltare, di ſonare, & </s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s727" xml:space="preserve">Sonui alcune, che dietro à ſe laſciano alcun lauoro, come l’ Arte fabrile, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s728" xml:space="preserve">l’Arte del fabricare. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s729" xml:space="preserve">Appreſſo qualch’una è, che al pren-
              <lb/>
            dere, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s730" xml:space="preserve">acquistare alcuna coſa ſi dà, come la uenatione, l’uccellare, la peſcaggione, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s731" xml:space="preserve">altre: </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s732" xml:space="preserve">infine molte non à conſiderare, non à finire,
              <lb/>
            non à pigliare intente ſono, ma correggono, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s733" xml:space="preserve">emendano gl’errori, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s734" xml:space="preserve">i danni delle coſe fatte, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s735" xml:space="preserve">acconciano quelle. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s736" xml:space="preserve">Con tutte le pre-
              <lb/>
            dette Arti, anzi ſopra tutte è l’ Architettura, come giudice che ella è di ciaſcuna: </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s737" xml:space="preserve">là onde biſogna che in eßa ſpecialmente ſi conſideri alcu-

            <s xml:id="echoid-s740" xml:space="preserve">però due coſe ſono, una è la ſignificata, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s741" xml:space="preserve">proposta opera, l’altra

            è la ſigniſicante, cioè dimoſtratiua ragione. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s742" xml:space="preserve">Tutti glieffetti adunque, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s743" xml:space="preserve">tutte l’opere, ò lauori delle Arti: </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s744" xml:space="preserve">tutte le concluſioni di tutte le ſci-
              <lb/>
            enze ſono le coſe ſignificate, ma le ragioni, le proue, le cauſe di quelle ſono le coſe ſignificanti, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s745" xml:space="preserve">queſto è perche il ſegno ſi riferiſce alla
              <lb/>
            coſa ſignificata, l’effetto alla cauſa, la concluſione alla proua. </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s746" xml:space="preserve">Ma per dichiaratione io dico, che ſignificare è per ſegni dimoſtrare, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s747" xml:space="preserve">

            ſegnare, e imprimere il ſegno: </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s748" xml:space="preserve">là doue in ogni opera da ragione drizzata, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s749" xml:space="preserve">con dißegno finita è impreſſo il ſegno dell’ Artefice, cioè

            la qualità, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s750" xml:space="preserve">la forma, che era nella mente di quello, perciò che l’artefice opera prima nell’intelletto, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s751" xml:space="preserve">concepe nellamente, & </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s752" xml:space="preserve">poi ſe-
              <lb/>
            gna la materia eſteriore dell’habito interiore.</s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s756" xml:space="preserve">Percioch’ella ſopra ogn’ Arte, (ſignifica,) cioèrappreſenta le coſe alla uirtù, che conoſce, & </s>

            ſecondo l’intentione dell’ Arte; </s>
            <s xml:id="echoid-s758" xml:space="preserve">& </s>

            Architetto laſcia queſti ultimi ſegni all’Oratore, & </s>

            <s xml:id="echoid-s766" xml:space="preserve">inſieme con la Dialettica, che è modo dell’artificioſo diſcorſo, abbraccia

            quegli, perche neceßarij ſono, intimi, & </s>
